The Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital ICU Expansion project is the fit-up and renovation of approximately 8,500 square feet on the second floor of the existing NWCH Building in Louisville, Kentucky. The project will provide ten new ICU rooms and upgrade two TCU rooms to better serve the hospital’s needs.
A new rooftop air handling unit is being provided for the fit-up portion to provide additional redundancy and flexibility for both the new and existing ICU spaces, while existing air handlers will be rebalanced to serve renovated spaces. In addition to new general exhaust fans, a new isolation fan will be added in order to renovate an existing ICU patient room into an infectious isolation room, which will bring the quantity of isolation rooms available to the ICU in line with the rest of the hospital system. Plumbing systems include a new isolated tempered water loop which will serve the new fit-up rooms, providing each room the capability to provide dialysis treatments. Plumbing fixtures and layouts in the fit-up and renovated spaces are designed to improve workflow and address infection prevention concerns.
Electrical systems utilize high-efficiency LED lighting while providing lighting controls that are optimized for effective use by the staff and the comfort of patients and visitors. Power and systems layouts within the patient rooms are designed to provide maximum flexibility in patient care, giving each room the capability to employ multiple diagnostic monitoring solutions simultaneously without disrupting the staff’s ability to work efficiently.
