The Michter’s Distillery is now open for visitors. It is located in the historic Fort Nelson Building in downtown Louisville. A 550-gallon pot still was installed, and three cyprus wood fermentors that were plucked from a previous Michter’s distilling site in Pennsylvania were moved in as well.
A variable capacity refrigerant system (VRF) with energy recovery was used and provides heating and cooling to the building. The advantage is this systems takes up a small footprint on such a compact site. High efficient LED lighting was utilized throughout the building including the decorative and accent fixtures in the public areas. A fully functioning distillery operation is integrated into the building with mash cooking, distilling and barreling all occurring in this facility. This allows visitors to experience the entire process of making bourbon.
