The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Charles Young Splash Park was held Monday May 2, 2022. Named “Splash!”, the water park will be a nature-inspired splash pad with strategic design inspired from the natural landscapes of Kentucky.
Splash! will also offer historical background for children through interactive features that will illustrate the story of Brigadier General Charles Young. Additionally, there will be features that illuminate the cultural history of the East End neighborhood and park. In order to mimic Kentucky landscapes, the park will have several water features that appear as creeks, stones, and turf mounds.
The purpose of the project is to create a “welcoming sense of arrival” to the East End surrounding neighborhood while also preserving the park’s significant historic features and legacies.
This $1.5 million nature-inspired water play project is anticipated to open in the spring of 2023.
