Woodford Reserve Distillery opened its new Welcome Center in Versailles, Ky., on June 12, 2019.
The new building is intended to begin the distillery tour for new visitors, and is described as a modern take on a traditional bluegrass farmhouse.
The new welcome center has a main hall with seating, a ticketing area for tourists, a bar and outdoor entertaining spaces. The artwork in the main hall are all originals by mostly Kentucky artists depicting Kentucky landscapes.
The company used oak and limestone in the decor, two materials important to the bourbon-making process. Bourbon is aged in oak barrels, and limestone is in the water in Kentucky.
The Versailles property is a national historic landmark, as distilling began on this site in 1812. It is included on The Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and saw about 150,000 visitors in 2018.
